What are some tips for first time dental insurance buyers to avoid rip offs and scams?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

never having bought dental insurance before can be scary, anyone have any tips to avoid misunderstandings, and high costs, and things like this ? Corporations clearly can trick people to get into their pocket books big time, so what are some things to look out for and avoid when you have never bought dental insurance before? (In California if it matters)

Normally, dental insurance is NOT a good buy. Dental insurance typically only covers 50% of the work, has a very low yearly limit ($1000-$2000), and each procedure has a deductible attached (usually about $50). For the price it doesn’t cover itself.

I’m a self-employed so there is no "company benefits" and my dad is an insurance salesperson. There is NO WAY I can go a day without medical insurance. He WILL NOT sale me dental insurance because it just isn’t worth the money.

Also, my dentist discounts everything now that I don’t have dental insurance. I didn’t ask for this; he just started doing it.

State’s dental care program helps some, not all

Friday, March 5th, 2010

one of those people is anthony elbrecht. he didn’t call us — we found him, after he posted a desperate plea for dental care on craigslist. he the state told him was ineligible for dental care — because he’s a single man without kids. we went straight to officials … and heard the same thing. anthony elbrecht is epileptic and started taking medication that causes gum problems, which he says caused major problems on six of his teeth.

I have a small chip in one of my teeth that needs to be filled, but I do not have dental insurance. Is there anyway that I can sign up for just dental insurance, get my tooth fixed and then cancel the policy.

Hey, I know a dental plan that is on;y14.96 a month for a single person. You dont have to stay on the plan for any amount of time, It does reqoire a 20 dollar aplication fee and the 14.95 to get started so I domt know It may not cost much money to get your tooth fixed,Check out the web site under dentist and find a provider in your area, and then the fee schedule to see the savings you would get,
You can enroll your self omline or call the represenative.
Best of luck

How do you go to the dentist without dental insurance?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I currently have no insurance. I will receive health insurance after the first of the year, but it does not include dental. I am trying to figure out how to go to the dentist without dental insurance.

Call and ask the nearest dental office if payments in instalments are accepted, than go and pay by cash, or cheque; if necessary pay the whole amount by a credit card. Also, the dental schools allow their students to practise under supervision and the patients get the low cost treatments. Good luck.
