Wondering how insurance works when you change plans in the middle of a pregnancy.?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Right now my husband and I are on his insurance plan and have a high deductible. If we change plans at open enrollment to a plan with a lower deductible and have already started seeing a docor for pregnacy, will the high deductible be the one they go by or the lower one on the plan we are planning to get?

You can absolutely change! You will need to the Dr’s office know asap of the change, so they can adjust your account when the new benefits are official. It’s really not as confusing as it seems. Congratulations!

How come part-time employees don’t qualify for employer’s group health insurance plans?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

So they have to pay higher rates under individual plans, even though they make less, cause they’re only part time. Is it any wonder why so many Americans do not have health insurance?

Its up to the employer whether or not part-time employees can be eligible under the benefit plan.

Many employers do choose to offer insurance to part-time employees, but the part-time employee is often charged a higher premium than a full time employee. Employers generally pay a large portion of the total premium – what gets taken out of your check is only part of the cost. Obviously the employer isn’t going to pay as much out of their pocket for a person who only contributes part-time vs. a person who works full-time.

My employer does offer benefits to part-time employees working at least 20 hours a week. However, the payroll deduction for a part time employee is nearly double what a full-time employee pays. (Which I guess makes sense, since they are only getting half as many hours out of the part time people as the full timers.)

Examples of other employers that offer health insurance to part time employees are…Starbucks, UPS, Kaplan Test Prep. Other Yahoo users might be able to tell you a few more.

Can you buy two individual health insurance plans?

Can you have more than one Health Insurance Plan for your self?

I have to buy my own insurance, but even the best individual insurance is crappy and I wanted to now if people ever buy two insurance plans? The insurance i have now only lets me see the doctor twice a year. If I got another insurance plan would it pick up where the other left off?

No, it doesn’t work that way. Most carriers require you to agree to cancel your existing policy when you apply for your new one, and if you have two policies one is going to be primary, and the other secondary. You will reap the benefits of the better plan, but where they overlap, only one will pay.

What you might want is be a supplemental or limited benefit plan to go along with your insurance policy. These are not insurance policies and I usually don’t recommend them. I think your money would be better spent buying a better single policy, or an HSA type of plan and banking the savings.

Can new insurance put exclusion rider on my policy even if i had continued coverage prior to changing plans?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I got a new individual health insurance plan after ending my Cobra. 2 years prior to switching plans I had a surgery which was fully covered by my then employer’s plan. The new health insurance company placed lifetime-of-the-policy exclusion rider to not cover this pre-existing condition. There was a break in coverage between the plans for 1 month.

HIPAA laws don’t cover you switching from group to individual plans, so not only can they exclude it but they could’ve declined you outright. This is a question you should be asking of your insurance broker. AND, if you didn’t buy from an insurance broker then you did yourself a disservice.

Can the government force a doctor in private practice to accept Federal or State insurance plans?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Generally every doctor signs on to which insurance plans they will accept patients from and will file the paperwork on your behalf, accept the payments that insurance company has negotiated. If you have an insurance that they don’t accept you have to pay the bill in full and then submit that to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.
Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIPP, etc.

No.

And they can’t force a doctor to perform any procedure he does not want to.

Socializing healthcare is going to reduce the quality greatly, no matter what anyone tells you. Its human nature, and if a doctor knows he cannot be sued anymore, he’s going to have a completely different approach to what he will, and will not do.

What are some good, low cost family health insurance plans for…?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

My husband and I need health insurance. He is a full time student and I am full time worker. We cannot get decent health insurance through his school or my work. We are looking for a low deductable, 0% coinsurance, and we need something with great maternity coverage, since we’re planning on starting a family soon. If you know of any great plans like this, please share! Thank you for your help!

So you want an isnurance policy that will pay out 2 dollars for every 1 dollar you pay in premiums. Those companies are bankrupt. They don’t pay their claims anyway. You should take a look at my agents website he can get you great coverage.

What kind of insurance plans can i get that would get rid of this underbite?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

A list of insurance plans for a 19 year old who wants braces and then surgery for his jaw to remove this underbite

Sorry, but plans that you have to pay for will not coverage braces, they may offer a discount, and are you not going to get oral surgery benefits either, most group plans dont cover that.
