What percent of medical insurance does your company pay?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

I’m interested to know what percent other companies pay of employee medical health insurance. I did not find any published surveys.

You will find that they are all over the place in the percentage that companies pay.

Typically, white collar jobs (professional, desk jobs, etc) will pay a higher percentage than a blue collar (construction, retail, etc.)

I work in a white collar position and mine pays for 90% of my health coverage and 50% for dependents (wife, kids)

What happens to my medical insurance if I get married?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I’m 5 months pregnant and am planning on getting married soon. However, I’m scared because of my insurance. I have Medical insurance, and I don’t know what is going to happen to it if I get married. Will I loose it? Will I end up owing? Will I keep it?
I’m covered under my parent’s.

Whose policy are you covered under? If it is your parents’ policy, then yes, you will probably lose your coverage when you marry. If you are covered through your employer, it should make no difference. If you are covered through the state or some other type of low-income insurance, then whether you still are covered will depend on the details of that program.

The only way to know for sure is to call your provider and ask.

CNN Michael Steele Interview – He Doesn’t Know What His Own Insurance Is!

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Moments after a brief speech by President Obama, RNC chairman Michael Steele, in an interview with CNN, says that delaying the vote on the President’s health care reform bill, which he calls “a risky experiment”, is necessary.

“I agree with the President that it’s time to do something different,” Steele said, but “this isn’t the different we want.”

Kyra Phillips says delaying the vote on the bill is not smart, because currently, “It’s costing us up the wazoo.”

“Do you know how much that wazoo is?,” Steele responds.

At the end of the interview, Steele says he’s “happy” with his current medical insurance – then admits he isn’t even sure what his actual insurance plan is! “Blue Cross Blue Shield – I think…”

How do you get medical insurance for your unborn baby before they are born?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

My first child is due January 2008. I have medical insurance for myself and for the baby when they are born- but only for the first 2 months of their life.

Is there a way for me to apply for medical insurance BEFORE he/she is born so I don’t have to rush it during their first two months? He/she would be on a separate medical insurance than me. Thanks for any answers!

You can’t. An unborn child does not have the necessary documents for this to be allowed. Before you can sign up for medical insurance, the child must have the basics, a name, birthdate, and he/she will need a social security number.
I know it is a pretty grim way to say it, but in the eyes of the government, your child isn’t real yet. There is no legal way to do it.
One thing you can do however is get information from all of the insurance companies you are considering.
When you find the right one, find out what you will need to have your child put on the insurance. It will make it a little easier when the time comes.

What is the most affordable personal medical insurance carrier you have found?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I know that no medical insurance is cheap, especially when you have to buy a personal policy not given thru your work. But, I have to get coverage for me and my husband. We just need basic insurance I guess….Like for medical and dentist visits. Have you found a more affordable insurance carrier? Or have any advice on what to look for in a new one? Thanks!

I found www.ehealthinsurance.com helpful. The site lets you compare price, benefits, and AM Best Rating of many insurance companies. The only time consuming part if you find a policy you like is filling out your medical history.
